The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning parliamentary group urged President Rumen Radev on Wednesday to submit to the National Assembly an invitation for Bulgaria to join the Peace Council initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.

MRF asks MPs to vote on the proposal and then forward it to the Council of Ministers to take the next steps towards Bulgaria’s accession.

The party’s position, sent to the media, calls for the proposal to be put to a vote and then forwarded to the Council of Ministers so it can take the necessary steps for Bulgaria to join the organization.

“It is of great importance for Bulgaria to participate in this initiative, through which President Donald Trump seeks to foster international cooperation toward a peaceful resolution of the military conflict in Gaza and other regions,” said MRF Chair and MRF–New Beginning floor leader Delyan Peevski.

“As a political leader, I insist that our country must not miss the opportunity to help build a new, fairer, and more stable world order,” Peevski added.

Earlier in the day, outgoing President Rumen Radev received a letter from Trump extending an invitation for Bulgaria to join the founding countries of the Peace Council. According to the statement, the establishment of the Peace Council at President Trump’s initiative aims to promote international cooperation in achieving a peaceful resolution to military conflicts in Gaza and other regions.

In a reply to Trump, President Rumen Radev welcomed Trump’s peace initiatives and said stronger reliance on diplomacy could help deliver lasting solutions in Gaza and beyond. The Presidency said Radev also referred to Bulgaria’s domestic turmoil, government resignations after nationwide protests and his own resignation to pursue what he described as restoring statehood, the rule of law and dialogue, adding that he expected a stable institutional environment to support continued cooperation with the United States. The White House is forming a Peace Council for Gaza and has named Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov as its High Representative; announced board members include U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner and World Bank President Ajay Banga.

Outgoing Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev criticized outgoing President Rumen Radev for publicly flagging the U.S. invitation only after a delay and without stating a clear position on the Gaza peace initiative or its proposed plan. He said the moment called for the head of State to assume institutional responsibility and provide unequivocal answers on key foreign-policy issues, arguing that the public is entitled to clarity on Bulgaria’s international stance and strategic orientation. Georgiev added that the government would continue to pursue a consistent pro-European and transatlantic course as an EU and NATO ally.
