In an interview for Digi24 aired on Sunday night, Romanian Minister of Energy Bogdan Ivan said that Romania is currently the largest producer of natural gas in the European Union.

The Minister reported: "We currently produce between 21 and 23 million cubic metres of gas per day and have gas storage facilities with a capacity of 3 billion cubic metres, which are currently filled to approximately 68% of their capacity." He added that Romania has sufficient gas for the cold season and that it was the only EU Member State to have used 100% of its storage capacity on November 1, 2025.

Ivan said: "Regardless of the weather conditions during this period, Romania has enough gas to avoid any pressure. We have not imported gas from Russia since 2023. We are now free from the energy extortion that was being exerted on us."

The Minister said that his country is not affected by the aid offered to Moldova and Ukraine. He specified: "Romania is acting as a potential regional player, because we are the ones who, on the one hand, import liquefied natural gas from the US, sell it to the Republic of Moldova, and transit gas to Ukraine, but in a way that generates revenue from this economic activity, and that is a plus." He said that Romania uses natural gas from other countries to help its neighbours, generating profits through Romanian companies.
