Polling stations for Kosovo’s snap parliamentary elections opened at 7:00 a.m. local time on Sunday and will close at 7:00 p.m.
According to Kosovo’s Central Election Commission (CEC), a total of 2,076,290 Kosovo citizens are eligible to vote. Of them, 1,999,204 are registered voters in Kosovo, while 77,086 are registered to vote abroad, either at diplomatic missions or by mail.
A total of 2,614 polling stations have been opened across the country, including 2,557 regular stations and 57 "conditional" polling stations in all 38 municipalities. Conditional voting allows citizens who cannot vote in their place of residence or are travelling to cast their ballot in the municipality where they are located, without prior registration.
On December 27, Kosovo citizens voted at 29 diplomatic missions in 18 countries, where 40 polling stations were opened. According to the CEC, 19,187 voters were registered to vote at diplomatic missions.
Voting at diplomatic missions was held for the first time in Kosovo’s history during the parliamentary elections on February 9, 2025.
On December 18, the CEC decided that elections would not be held at eight diplomatic missions, with voters there instead exercising their right to vote by mail.
Postal voting was available to registered voters in 23 countries and concluded on December 27.
The ballot features 24 political entities – 18 political parties, three coalitions, two civic initiatives and one independent candidate – with a total of 1,180 candidates.
According to the CEC, quoted by the Telegrafi news portal, nearly 860 local and international observers have been accredited to monitor Sunday’s parliamentary elections.
Kosovo has been in a political crisis since the parliamentary elections of February 9, 2025, after failing to form a government. The election campaign for the snap vote began on December 17 and ended on Saturday, as Election Day itself serves as a “day of reflection” under Kosovo law.
