The shortage of personnel in the industry sector is now more serious than in tourism, recruitment platform Jobtiger OOD Director Svetlozar Petrov told BTA on Friday. He participated in a scientific conference with international participation entitled Tourism and the New Reality, hosted by the Varna University of Economics.

He stressed that the problem with the workforce is becoming chronic and that even though the State is trying, the responsibility largely lies with individual entrepreneurs who must find ways to secure staff. "There is no option to stop importing labour, the whole of Europe works this way and Bulgaria is no exception," he emphasized.

Petrov stated that in the field of tourism, entrepreneurs would solve their problem more easily if they switched to year-round work and offered attractive conditions, noting that Bulgarians are no longer interested in seasonal employment, especially considering that the industry sector offers many year-round jobs with good pay. Petrov pointed out that there are hoteliers who try to pay at least the management team throughout the year, but this is not always possible and depends on the income during the season.
