A family of ethnic Bulgarians from the Ukrainian city of Bolhrad, Sergey Rusev and Nataliya Ruseva, presented Bulgarian meat delicacies at the opening of the 6th OKO International Ethnographic Film Festival, held on September 5 at “ArtPrychal” in Kyiv, Nataliya Ruseva told BTA.
The family is the founder of the artisanal Bulgarian delicacies “Balkanski Yastia” (Balkan dishes) Museum and Tasting Complex, based in Bolhrad, Ukraine. Their production is based on old Balkan recipes using local ingredients and traditional spices.
“Everything that was on the table at the opening, we brought ourselves: kavarma (fried or sauteed meat with traditional spices), sausages, cheese. We brought the culinary culture of the Bessarabian Bulgarians to introduce locals to our traditions,” commented Ruseva.
The Bulgarian delicacies corner was open to the festival guests, and everyone had the opportunity to taste the food and Bessarabian wine.
The OKO International Festival was opened on September 5 on the banks of the Dnipro River in Kyiv. The programme included Bulgarian ritual performances by the Kukeri group “Bessarabia” from Bolgrad and songs and dances by the folk ensemble “Izvor” from the Bulgarian village of Gorodne in Odesa region.
