The Bulgarian Cultural Centre in Odesa is highlighting the work of four photographers of Bulgarian origin. Organized by the Odesa branch of the National Union of Photographers of Ukraine in partnership with the All-Ukrainian Centre for Bulgarian Culture in Odesa, the exhibition opened Thursday.
On display are works by Irina Bogomolenko, Alexander Vizirov, Igor Gerzhik and Lidia Litvinova. All four are members of the National Union of Photographers of Ukraine, renowned masters of fine-art photography in the Ukrainian Black Sea city.
The photo exhibition consists of four expositions that create a unified visual space. "Here you will find architectural forms and landscapes of Ukrainian regions, portraits and pastoral scenes, the flora and fauna of Kuialnyk and protected ecological areas, as well as ethnographic motifs that convey the everyday life of Bulgarians from Bessarabia," Alexander Vizirov, one of the exhibitors, said.
Representatives of the city's cultural community, lovers of photography, ethnology, and fine arts attended the opening of the event at the Bulgarian Cultural Centre.
The photographers and guests of the event were greeted by the guest of honour Svetoslav Ivanov, Bulgaria’s Consul General in Odesa, who emphasized the international character of the project and its importance in cultural dialogue. "At this difficult period, you find the time and strength to support this art, which is not easy at all. The Bulgarian Culture Centre is a hub for such gatherings, for supporting the Bulgarian spirit. I wish everyone good health and the coming of peace soon," Ivanov said.
All-Ukrainian Centre for Bulgarian Culture Director Dimitar Terzi added: "The Bulgarian Centre is open to everyone. Our activities are aimed at developing the activities of the Bulgarian community in Ukraine. These include presentations and creative evenings with famous singers, musicians, writers, poets, and artists. We organize about 30 exhibitions a year, before the war we had twice as many. I am glad that an exhibition of photographers of Bulgarian origin has been opened here, which I hope will become an annual event."
The exhibit continues until September 12.
