The Council of Ministers adopted a decision to release, at his own request, economics professor George Vredeveld, a citizen of the United States, from his duties as honorary (non-career) consular officer of Bulgaria in the United States, based in Cincinnati, with a consular district covering the state of Ohio. The consulate headed by him will be closed, the government press service reported, covering the cabinet's weekly meeting on Wednesday.

Prof. Vredeveld expressed a wish to be released from his post for personal reasons, and conveyed his gratitude to the Bulgarian authorities for the opportunity to contribute to the development of bilateral relations over the years of his service as honorary consul.

Vredeveld was appointed as an honorary (non-career) consular by a Bulgarian government decision dated November 8, 2018, and has worked actively in support of bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States in various areas of mutual interest.
