site.btaWorld Athletics Measures and Certifies Sofia 1K Run Route

The route for the first edition of the Sofia 1K Run was officially measured and certified by World Athletics, the organizers from Darko Athletics Team said on Wednesday. The race, starting and finishing on General Gurko Street, will take place on October 4.

This is the first time Bulgaria has had a licensed 1-kilometre course. The run will pass through iconic Sofia landmarks, such as the Vasil Levski National Stadium, Ariana Lake and Eagles' Bridge.

Race director Daniel Dukov said that the most important thing is for participants to have confidence in the distance. He added: "When you line up at the start of a 1 km race, you need to know that there is exactly 1 km ahead of you. That is why it was important for us that the course be measured to international standards by a top-level specialist. On October 4, Sofia will have the chance to see something different – a fast and exciting road race right in the heart of the city."

The race is organized in partnership with Sofia Municipality. Runners can register at sofia1krun.com.
