The scaremongering about the seawater pollution after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam [on Dnipro river in Ukraine] is done deliberately, Tourism Minister Zaritza Dinkova told media in Varna on Friday. She visited the Naval Academy in the city to see first-hand how water clarity is monitored.

“I think it is obvious that panic is being deliberately created and measures should be taken to stop these attacks on the Bulgarian tourism business,” Dinkova said. According to her, there is still no drop in holiday bookings in the country.

Water monitoring, which is carried out at the Naval Academy in Varna, is in line with the highest European standards, Dinkova added. She pointed out that the data indicate that there is no likelihood of any pollution reaching the Romanian border in the next 10 days.

The Nova Kakhovka dam in the Russian-controlled area of southern Ukraine was destroyed on June 6, unleashing a flood of water. Ukraine's military and NATO have accused Russia of blowing up the dam, while Russia has blamed Ukraine.
