One person died and three others were rescued, after a mine collapse near the town of Palu in eastern Turkiye, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported. The publication cited a statement from Elazig Province, which specified that the incident occurred on Friday.

The reason for the collapse is still unknown.

Ambulances and teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency rushed to the disaster area as soon as the authorities were notified.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar offered his condolences to the relatives of the victim.
