The school choir Rodolyubets from the village of Valea Perjei, Taraclia District, the only one of its kind in Moldova with a Bulgarian folklore repertoire, is visiting the city of Varna, on the Black Sea. Nineteen students from grades 5 to 12 will perform their traditional songs at the 33rd Varna Summer International Folklore Festival on August 1 at 7 p.m. on the Rakovina stage.

The choir was invited by Hristo Hristov, mayor of Varna’s Mladost Borough and chair of the World Parliament of Bulgarians, after the ensemble impressed the audience during a reception at the Bulgarian Embassy in Chisinau on March 3. Hristov emphasized that Bulgarian culture must be preserved and showcased beyond the borders of the country.

The choir is led by music educator and conductor Tihomir Borisov, who has been seconded to Valea Perjei by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education.

The young performers will stay in Varna until August 3. Their visit includes tours of cultural and historical landmarks in the region.

This year’s Varna Summer International Folklore Festival, dedicated to friendship, brings together over 400 artists from Serbia, Hungary, Georgia, Colombia, Czechia, Moldova, and Bulgaria.
