President Iliana Iotova is very likely to convene the new Parliament on April 29 or 30. "It is very much possible that I will convene the 52nd National Assembly [next] Wednesday or Thursday," she told reporters on Tuesday.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) is yet to announce the official results for the April 19, 2026 snap parliamentary elections where Progressive Bulgaria of former President Rumen Radev won a landslide.

Iotova said that she expects to see the CEC decision. "I hope that by Saturday at the latest we will have the list with the names of the new MPs, which means that it will be gazetted promptly, on Tuesday. We have all grounds to convene Parliament. I am ready to postpone my visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia, if they are ready," the President also said.

Asked by BTA whether she believes acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov should resign or a new Supreme Judicial Council should be formed first, Iotova said she believes that the new majority in Parliament - and, as far as she understood, the opposition as well - will do everything in their power to ensure that Bulgaria finally undertakes a serious judicial reform. "A reform that is well-thought-out, with measured steps taken one after another, and with respect for the entire legal profession. This time, I sincerely recommend that they listen to their positions and opinions," she noted.

The President was a guest at an event of the Union of Bulgarian Jurists on the occasion of the Constitution Day and the professional day of lawyers.
