The Beach Pro Tour beach volleyball tournament in the Futures category will be held in Sveti Vlas, on the Black Sea, for the third consecutive year, bringing together a total of 85 men’s and women’s teams from 28 countries across three continents, Iva Partaleva, a representative of Marina Dinevi Group, the tournament organizers, and Lyubomir Ganev, president of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation announced at a press conference at the National Press Club of the Bulgarian News Agency in Sofia on Thursday.
"This year will see record Bulgarian participation. Out of a total of 45 men’s teams and 39 women’s teams, we have eight men’s and five women’s pairs from Bulgaria. There will be 170 competitors. Last year there were participants from Mauritius. This year there will be players from Argentina and Morocco," Partaleva said.
"Last year, the best Bulgarian duo, Dimitar Mehandzhiyski and Dimitar Kalchev, finished in third place. We now expect a similar performance. After their participation in the Nations League, they ranked 94th in the world, we expect that to change after Sveti Vlas," Partaleva added.
The tournament’s prize fund has been increased from EUR 10,000 to 15,000 (EUR 7,500 men/women), the organizers announced. "Until now, the development of beach volleyball has been left in the hands of the athletes, which is not their job. Things have started to normalize," Ganev said.
The top-seeded men’s teams will be two pairs from Hungary, while the top-seeded women’s team is Nadine Demierre and Livia Stolz from Switzerland. The tournament will take place from June 3 to 7. Currently, matches are being played on two courts, and additional courts are under construction. The semi-finals and finals of the tournament will be live on BNT 3.
