Greece has cancelled some of its organic farming subsidy schemes following the discovery of fraud, eKathimerini reported, quoting the Rural Development and Food Ministry.
More specifically, all aid programmes for organic beekeeping and livestock farming have been cancelled, amid a rash of bogus applications by farmers to receive EU subsidies
Agriculture Minister Margaritis Schinas is quoted as saying this move puts an end to speculation that the aid could restart after it was suspended in October 2025, pending audits.
The programme, budgeted at EUR 134 million, would allocate EUR 19 million to organic beekeeping and EUR 115 million to organic livestock farming, eKathimerini said.
"We are obliged to cancel the problematic actions," Schinas said at a press conference, adding that "there will be no future funding until we establish the appropriate (monitoring) framework".
"We are obliged to cancel the problematic actions," Schinas said. He added that the funds from the canceled programmes "will be redirected to other priorities", which will be announced soon. He also noted that Greece is in full coordination with Brussels, and they are fully informed about the situation.
