Over the past decade, Bulgaria has lost over 100 protected birds of prey, most often due to illegally placed poisoned baits as stated by WWF Bulgaria in a position on its website regarding the dead birds found in the Central Balkan National Park, including protected species of vultures. "This latest case of poisoning will have serious consequences for the populations, because they are small in number," the environmental organization commented.

Over Two Tonnes of Food of Unknown Origin Seized at Illegal Market in SW Bulgaria - Food Safety Agency
The Pazardzhik Regional Food Safety Directorate found over two tonnes of food without origin documents during an inspection of an illegal market near the southwestern village of Yundola in Velingrad Municipality, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said here Thursday. The inspection has been conducted jointly with with police and tax officials and its conclusion is that food of both animal and non-animal origin was being sold at unregistered stalls.
