Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev took part in the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting under the Berlin Process, held in Belfast on October 8–9 under the chairmanship of the United Kingdom, the Foreign Ministry here said on Thursday.
In his remarks, Georgiev emphasised the importance of the Berlin Process as a key platform for promoting the European perspective of the Western Balkans, strengthening regional cooperation, and delivering tangible results for citizens, while adhering to the principle of merit-based progress for each candidate country.
“Our motto within the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) – ‘A Compass for Stability, Security and Resilience’ – reflects Bulgaria’s commitment to finding effective solutions to the challenges in South-East Europe for the sake of a better future for our societies,” Georgiev said.
Among Bulgaria’s highlighted priorities were regional connectivity, energy resilience, and economic growth as drivers of human development and tools for reducing vulnerabilities, security and resilience against hybrid threats, among others.
In conclusion, the Bulgarian top diplomat called for deeper synergy between the Berlin Process and the SEECP to accelerate the shared path towards a stable, secure, and resilient region.
The Berlin process was set up in 2014 as a platform to increase cooperation between the Western Balkans Six and the Berlin Process host countries as well as the EU. It is first and foremost a consistent and inclusive format for all 6 Western Balkan countries. High official representatives of the Western Balkan Six (WB6) and their peers in Berlin Process host countries meet at least once a year at the Summit and preparatory Ministerial meetings.
