The Stara Zagora District Court has remanded in custody a 40-year-old Bulgarian wanted in Austria for arson, the court said on Wednesday.
The man, identified as S.M., was detained on a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Innsbruck Public Prosecutor's Office. He is the subject of criminal proceedings in Austria for committing arson with another person. According to the arrest warrant, a restaurant was set on fire, which spread to an adjoining residential building and its occupants had to be evacuated. The arson caused extensive material damage.
The Stara Zagora District Court ruled that the European Arrest Warrant met all legal requirements and ordered the man’s detention until his transfer to the Austrian authorities.
The court's decision is appealable before the Appellate Court in Plovdiv.
