"The security guarantees must include stable support from both the European and the Euro-Atlantic partners," Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said here on Tuesday, quoted by the Government Information Service.

The PM spoke at a video conference of the heads of State and government of the EU Member States, at which the leaders discussed the results of the meeting on Ukraine, held in Washington D.C. on Monday.

"A full and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine should continue to be our immediate priority," Zhelyazkov pointed out. He welcomed the efforts of Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and Donald Trump of the US. The PM was adamant that reaching comprehensive peace in Ukraine involves full respect for international law and international order. "Bulgaria, together with our EU partners and NATO Allies, is ready to contribute to achieving a framework for just and lasting peace," the PM said further.

Earlier in the day, Zhelyazkov took part in a video conference of the Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine. The participants discussed the outcome of the talks on Ukraine held in the US capital.

"All channels of support for Ukraine that we have established so far must continue to be applied in a coordinated manner as a key element of security guarantees," the Bulgarian PM wrote on X after the video conference.

It was co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

On August 19, Trump conferred with Zelensky at the White House, ahead of an expanded-format talks involving NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Macron.

After the meeting, the US President said that preparations would begin for a meeting between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which would be followed by trilateral talks including himself.

In a phone talk with Trump, Putin agreed to take part in this upcoming meeting, which is expected to take place within the next two weeks, Merz announced.
