The European Film Academy is offering Bulgarian schools free access to 74 European films from 33 countries via the European Film Club digital platform, said the team behind the CineLibri film and literature festival.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the National Film Centre and will be officially announced at a press conference marking the start of CineLibri.

The programme, created in collaboration with teenagers, aims to spark interest in European cinema, improve critical thinking, and encourage cultural dialogue. The European Film Club will provide teenagers aged 12 to 19 with year-round access to selected European films and opportunities for cultural exchange. The films, selected by young people, address topics such as identity, migration, climate change, and relationships, are classified by age, and have English subtitles. The organizers said that more languages will be added.

Teachers, film industry professionals, and students over the age of 16 will be able to create and manage film clubs, organize screenings and discussions in classrooms, extracurricular activities, or joint online screenings. The initiative has already established clubs in 22 countries. Interactive features allow members to comment on films, participate in Q&A sessions with directors, and access behind-the-scenes content. The collection of films can be viewed independently online, screened in the classroom, or during extracurricular activities.

Studies show that 79% of young participants consider European cinema to be key to building a sense of European identity, and film clubs help to increase confidence, communication, and empathy, said the CineLibri team.
