site.btaA United Europe Is Necessary to Preserve Democracy: MEP Nikola Minchev

A united Europe is the necessary instrument to preserve civil liberties and rights, in general to preserve democracy. This is what Bulgarian MEP from the Renew Europe group Nikola Minchev told BTA ahead of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Minchev added that in the other major democratic centre in the world - the United States of America - anti-democratic practices are observed, pointing to the way Trump imposes his policies, refers to the work of institutions in the state, speaks out about the work of the judiciary.
Europe, in this new, complicated geopolitical environment, remains a major centre for the defence of democracy and freedoms. The European Union, despite all the criticisms that can be made about the way it functions, despite the fact that it is cumbersome in the way it takes decisions, remains a highly successful project, Minchev added.
