Bulgarian President Rumen Radev discussed ways to boost trade and investment between Bulgaria and Poland during a meeting with the Polish-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, the President’s press secretariat said on Monday.

Radev is in Warsaw at the invitation of Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda to attend the 10th Three Seas Summit.

On the first day of the visit, he met representatives of Polish and Bulgarian companies in transport, energy, food processing, pharmaceuticals, defence, banking and insurance that either drive bilateral exchange or plan to enter the Bulgarian market.

Radev said sea, mountain, cultural, ski and spa tourism were central to bilateral ties, noting that more than 430 000 Polish tourists visited Bulgaria in 2024.

He outlined Bulgaria’s strategic location, stable banking system, fast-growing high-tech, robotics and mechatronics sectors, expanding industrial zones, skilled workforce and favourable tax policy as advantages for investors.

Business leaders confirmed plans to expand operations in Bulgaria and called for joint efforts by Eastern European states to improve north–south transport links, including new motorways and additional Danube bridges between Bulgaria and Romania. Poor connectivity, they said, remains a major obstacle to faster economic growth and tourism in the region.

Earlier in the day, Radev visited the National Library of Poland, which preserves part of the original Codex Suprasliensis, also known as the Retkov Sbornik. He hailed the 10th-century Preslav manuscript as “one of the most significant medieval relics of Slavic literary heritage”. Marking the 200th anniversary of its discovery by Russian scholar Mikhail Bobrovsky and the library’s continuing stewardship of the work, he presented Director Tomasz Makowski with the Sts Cyril and Methodius Plaque.
