Teya Nikolova set a new national record and secured a place in the semi-finals of the 50-metre breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore on Saturday.

The Bulgarian swimmer posted the 13th fastest time in the heats with 30.67 seconds, earning a spot among the top 16 semi-finalists.

Nikolova’s time of 30.67 seconds surpassed her previous national record of 30.73 seconds, which she set in May this year in Burgas. In the heats, Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte was the fastest overall, completing the distance in 29.82 seconds.
