Forty Bulgarian tourists are stranded in Sri Lanka due to widespread flooding in the country, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry told BTA on Friday. None of the tourists have been injured.

The Ministry said that, due to the difficult conditions, communication with the Bulgarian travellers has been challenging. Officials are in contact with their travel agency, and Honorary Consul Andre Miles Eristus Fernando, responsible for the region, is traveling to meet the group to ensure their safety.

Earlier in November, Sri Lanka faced severe weather that caused landslides and flooding. On Thursday, government offices and schools were closed after the death toll from floods and landslides reached 56, with over 600 homes reported damaged, according to local authorities cited by the Associated Press.
