Bulgaria’s top tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, will miss the upcoming US Open due to an injury, his manager Georgi Stoimenov told the specialized tennis news website TennisKafe. The Grand Slam tournament on the hard courts of New York is scheduled from August 24 to September 7. Dimitrov, who reached the quarterfinals in 2024, will not be able to compete this time.

On July 7, the 34-year-old was forced to retire from a fourth-round men's singles match against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships after sustaining a partial tear of his right pectoralis major muscle. Dimitrov had taken the first two sets 6–3, 7–5 and was tied 2–2 in the third when the injury occurred during a service game. This marked Dimitrov’s fifth consecutive withdrawal from a Grand Slam tournament due to injury.

Ranked No. 20 in the world, Dimitrov’s absence from US Open will mark the end of his remarkable streak of 58 consecutive Grand Slam appearances, a run that began with the 2011 Australian Open. He had been one of the few active players to maintain such consistent presence at major tournaments for over a decade.

There is cautious optimism that Dimitrov will be fit to return to the ATP Tour in late September, aiming to compete in the Asian Swing. The highlight of that series is the Shanghai Masters, scheduled for October 1–12.
