The Bulgarian national team became the women's table soccer (foosball) world champions.
In the final of the championship, which was held in the Spanish city of Zaragoza, the Bulgarian women beat the French team 40:38 after a comeback.
"For me, this is a really special moment. I will always remember it, because together we achieved all this," said the captain of the Bulgarian team Ekaterina Atanasova to the International Table Soccer Federation.
Veronika Mincheva, Radostina Lyubomirova, Alexandra Novkova, Blagovesta Hoffman, Tanya Krencheva, Ekaterina Atanasova and Stanislava Staykova played for the team, led by Denis Bisserov.
Blagovesta Hoffman was the main credit for the comeback, as she defeated Clementine Thomar in the second of the two singles matches with 18:8. This helped the Bulgarians to turn the tables after losing 12:20 in the first two matches, one in singles and one in doubles. In the last match, Tanya Krencheva and Ekaterina Atanasova scored 10:10.
The third place in the tournament went to the US team, which defeated Germany.
Hoffman and Novkova also came in second in the women's doubles, losing to the German pair in the title match.
The US team won the men's title, after defeating Luxembourg 40:25 in the final.
Over 1,000 competitors from more than 40 countries participated in the 2025 World Table Soccer Championship.
