Bulgarian athletes won a title and seven more medals at the 7th IFK World Kyokushin Karate Championship held on May 10, 2025, in Leipzig, Germany, the Bulgarian Karate Kuokushin Federation announced on Tuesday.
Nedji Bozov became the champion in the boys U18 +75 kg weight category. He achieved four consecutive victories in the competition. In the match for the gold medal, he prevailed over Mykhailo Saveliev from Ukraine.
Kaan Akiev and Alexandra Ivanova also reached the final.
Akiev lost the boys U16 -60 kg title match to Egar Nadikta from Kazakhstan, while in the same girls U18 category, Ivanova won a silver medal after losing the final to Yanka Norteis from Hungary.
Hristiana Dimitrova (women, over 65 kg), Ivan Gorchev (boys U16, -55 kg), Raya Ivanova (girls U16, +55 kg), Kalina Parvanova (girls U18, -50 kg) and Ioanna Dafinchieva (girls U18, -55 kg) won bronze medals.
More than 650 athletes from 40 countries took part in the championship, and Bulgaria was represented by a total of 26 competitors.
