World No. 16 Grigor Dimitrov beat Chile’s Nicolas Jarry 6:3, 6:4 Saturday to book a place in the Madrid Masters 1000 third round. Dimitrov saved all five break points he faced and wrapped up the match in 99 minutes, earning EUR 52,925 and 50 ranking points.

An early break gave Dimitrov a 3:0 cushion and the opening set. He broke again to start the second, maintained flawless serving, and closed out the win. Dimitrov won 74% of points on his first serve and kept his unforced errors to 12, while Jarry hit 24 winners but 37 errors.

Dimitrov said he is very happy to have won in straight sets. He tried to play more creatively at the start but noted that it was not easy and he avoided taking unnecessary risks. Once he found his rhythm, it helped his serve a lot.

In round three Dimitrov will face 24-year-old Briton Jacob Fearnley, who upset 19th seed Tomas Machac 1:6, 6:3, 6:2.
