Over 40 companies have expressed interest in the construction of Terminal 3 and the modernization of Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport, Jesus Caballero, CEO of the airport's operator SOF Connect, said here Tuesday. He was among the speakers at a career forum organized by Capital.

He reiterated that the operator's mission is to make Sofia Airport not just the gateway to the country but to transform it into the first five-star regional airport in Europe. We have everything we need to succeed, he added.

The scope of the project includes the design and construction of a new Terminal 3 with an area of 60,000 sq m, which will be connected to the existing Terminal 2 building and increase the annual passenger capacity from 7 million to 20 million. The project includes new arrival and departure areas, a centralized security checkpoint, offices and service facilities for airport users, a passenger boarding bridge, and commercial areas.

The modernization of the existing Terminal 2 building, which has an area of 72,000 square meters, is also planned. Activities include the expansion of retail areas both in the public zone and the post-security area, the conversion of existing passenger processing areas into offices and auxiliary spaces for airport users, as well as repairs and upgrades to existing airport systems.

Caballero said that there are five generations working in the SOF Connect team: from the Silent Generation to Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Gen Z, which makes up 80% of new passengers and is shaping the way we travel today. Generation Alpha is already knocking on our door – they are already putting pressure on us, said Caballero.
