At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers has designated Deputy Finance Minister Metodi Metodiev as Bulgaria’s Alternate Governor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The decision is in line with Article XII, Section 2 (a) of the IMF Articles of Agreement, which requires each member country to appoint a Governor and an Alternate Governor to represent its interests on the IMF Board of Governors.

In accordance with these provisions and established practice, the position of Governor for Bulgaria at the IMF is held by the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, while the Alternate Governor is traditionally the Deputy Finance Minister responsible for managing the country’s relations with the international financial institution.

The decision ensures that Bulgaria’s representation at the IMF remains up to date, allowing the country to present its positions on the Fund’s agenda and safeguard its interests as a shareholder.
