site.btaHead of Parliamentary Budget Committee: Businesses Back Amendments to Euro Introduction Act

Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance and GERB-UDF MP, Delyan Dobrev, told reporters in Parliament on Tuesday that the amendments to the Introduction of the Euro Act enjoy support from businesses.
After the Committee on Budget and Finance adopted the bill amending and supplementing the Introduction of the Euro Act at second reading, Dobrev told reporters: "Everything we voted on today is supported by the business community. A compromise has been reached so that, on the one hand, consumers are protected, and, on the other hand, businesses can operate with peace of mind."
Dobrev said that the texts have been refined. He added that on second reading, the period of validity of the measures against possible unfair price increases by retailers in connection with Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone has been reduced, and these measures will remain in force until August 8, 2026.
The MP said: "Some of the sanctions have been reduced, and guarantees have been given to businesses that they will not be checked and harassed uncontrollably." He added that a grace period of two months is also being introduced, during which companies will not be penalized, and the control authorities will issue prescriptions for the removal of identified irregularities.
Dobrev dismissed as false comments from Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria MP Martin Dimitrov, who expressed reservations about the amendments. Dobrev added: "What Mr Dimitrov said sounded more like an election campaign, like a speech at a party event, and I will take it as a joke."
