The revenue from overnight stays in the Borovets resort complex amounted to BGN 43 million in 2024, of which BGN 23 million were from overnight stays of foreign tourists, according to National Statistical Institute data presented during the adoption of the Tourism Development Programme of Samokov Municipality on Thursday. These numbers mark a 22% growth in revenue compared to 2023, when the revenue in the resort amounted to BGN 35 million, of which BGN 19 million were from overnight stays of foreign tourists.
In 2024, more than 430,000 overnight stays were recorded by 150,000 visitors, including 220,155 stays by 55,000 international guests. In comparison, 2023 saw nearly 450,000 overnight stays by the same number of visitors, with 209,000 stays made by 50,000 guests from abroad.
The Samokov Municipal Council said that, according to these data, the share of holiday trips decreases at the expense of shorter-term and weekend trips, adding that social networks have a huge influence on making decisions about vacations and that AI will increasingly enter the operational activities and the offer of tourist services. The main goal of the Annual Tourism Development Programme of Samokov Municipality for 2025 is to establish the Municipality as a year-round tourist destination in Bulgaria, the Municipal Council emphasized.
For this purpose, the goals are to build new tourist attractions that will permanently retain the attention of tourists and attract new ones, especially outside the winter season. It is noted that new eco-trails should be built and maintained near the town and separate such in the Borovets resort complex. The preservation, maintenance and development of green areas, parks, pedestrian alleys, bikeways and tourist trails are also among the priorities of the local government.
