The agreement aims to promote bilateral ties in areas such as the digital and green transitions, emerging technologies, microelectronics, space policy and technologies, IT talent exchange, and the development of entrepreneurial and start-up ecosystems.
The ninth session of the Bulgarian-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation is being held from July 16 to 18 at Sofia Tech Park. Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan is leading a delegation on a two-day visit to Bulgaria, which includes First Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry Gevorg Mantashyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan.
Addressing the session, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev said: “We are tasked with building on the excellent political relations we enjoy with Armenia by deepening our economic cooperation in the areas of innovation, culture, and education”.
Donchev noted that, in recent years, Bulgaria has built capacity and gained experience in the IT and AI sectors. “We also have a strong tradition in mechanical engineering and mechatronics. These are areas where we are ready to share expertise and explore opportunities for joint technology development and business projects,” the Minister said. He added that Armenia’s efforts to internationalize its businesses and seek partners beyond Europe are valuable for Bulgaria.
Hayrapetyan said that closer cooperation in research and development would boost bilateral relations and create new opportunities for both countries.
During the session, experts from both sides discussed current issues in trade and economic relations, as well as opportunities to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Earlier in the day, Donchev and Hayrapetyan held a bilateral meeting to discuss investment promotion and the strengthening of business relations. The Ambassador of Armenia to Bulgaria, Tsovinar Hambardzumyan, also attended.
