Turkish Ambassador to Bulgaria Mehmet Sait Uyanik believes that tourism has an important role to play in the further development of the two countries’ ties. According to the diplomat, more than 3 million Bulhgarian nationals visited Turkiye in 2024 and over 2.3 million Turks travelled to Bulgaria.

Ambassador Uyanik spoke during a forum in Sofia titled “Diplomacy of Wonders – The Most Ancient Wonders of Bulgaria and Turkiye,” organized by the Turkish Embassy and the Cultural Heritage Society, which is the Bulgarian member of the European heritage preservation organization Europa Nostra.

The Ambassador said that tourism is a clear example of the interest which the people of Turkiye and Bulgaria have in each other. In 2024, the Turkish Embassy in Sofia organized over 15 cultural events aimed at promoting bilateral cultural relations.

The forum, held at Sofia’s Ramada hotel, was attended by Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Transport and Communications Minister Grozdan Karadjov, Culture Minister Marian Bachev, Cultural Heritage Society Chair Slavka Bozukova, MPs, ambassadors, diplomats, scientists and representatives of various organizations.
