Addressing the Green Transition Forum 5.0 in Sofia on Monday, National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova said Europe needs true leaders more than ever. The forum is titled "Powering Up Competitiveness and Innovation in the CEE Region".

"We need people with courage - people who can chart new paths and make tough but strategic decisions," Kiselova added.

"We are living in an era of geoeconomic conflicts, trade tensions, and a technological race. America and China are moving at high speed, at the speed of light in certain fields such as artificial intelligence and the high-tech industry. We Europeans are facing a serious question: will we continue to lag behind, or will we reclaim our leadership through a new vision, innovation and bold decisions?" the National Assembly Chair said.

Kiselova noted that five years ago, the conference began as a platform to discuss the risks and opportunities for Bulgaria in the context of the Green Deal, while now it is much more - a space where ideas and visions for competitiveness, innovation and climate resilience meet.

More than 350 speakers from 26 countries are participating in the five-day forum, which she called a platform for a "big conversation about the future" and "an opportunity for future regional leadership."
