The Fishing Port in Pomorie is among Bulgarian sites that have received the international environmental Blue Flag Award for 2025. Pomorie Mayor Ivan Aleksiev commented that the Blue Flag Award is another symbol of their efforts to establishing Pomorie as a peaceful and safe town. "I believe that it [the award] influences the even better reputation of our Black Sea coast and that it brings an economic effect to the awarded destinations," he pointed out.

Aleksiev noted that the official start of the summer tourist season in Pomorie will be given on May 31, adding that the same day the national flag of Bulgaria will be raised at the Fishing Port, next to which the Blue Flag will also be flown.

The Blue Flag Award is given by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education, with over 50 countries participating in the programme. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.

BTA is presenting all 30 Bulgarian beaches and harbours awarded the Blue Flag by the international jury of the Programme in Copenhagen. It is the 30th anniversary of the first award for the country - the pilot Blue Flag was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
