Unit 5 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant will be shut down for scheduled annual maintenance and refueling as of May 5, 2025, the plant said in a press release on Friday.
The repairs are scheduled to be completed by mid-June. The necessary preventive maintenance, technical servicing, upgrades and repairs to Unit 5 equipment and systems will be carried out.
In continuation of the 4-year process of stage-by-stage transitioning to a new nuclear fuel that started in 2024, the next quantity of Robust Westinghouse Fuel Assembly fuel will be loaded into the unit's reactor. The stable operation of the Nuclear Power Plant after the first refueling with the new fuel type last spring confirms the successful implementation of the plant’s nuclear fuel cycle diversification programme.
All the activities which will be carried out during the repairs aim to ensure the safe and stable operation of Unit 5.
Unit 6 of the Kozloduy NPP is operating according to the power generation schedule, the press release said.
