As a result of the annual and monthly product allocation procedures carried out by natural gas transmission and storage system operator Bulgartransgaz, over 87% of the natural gas storage capacity in the Chiren underground gas storage facility for the 2025/2026 gas year has been reserved, the operator reported. The reserved capacity amounts to nearly 567 million cubic metres. So far, 15 companies have booked capacity, eight of which have international participation.
The remaining spare storage, production and injection capacity at Chiren will be offered for reservation in monthly capacity product auctions held each month for the remainder of the gas storage year, as well as on a short-term basis. All auctions for pumping, production and storage capacity at Chiren will be conducted in accordance with the auction calendar published on the operator's website.
As of the upcoming pumping season, the storage capacity at the Chiren storage facility has increased by 100 million cubic metres to 650 million.
