An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale was registered at 10:51 local time on Monday morning in western Thessaly, Greece, public broadcaster ERT reported. The epicentre of the quake was in the area of the Plastiras dam in the province of Karditsa, 16 km southwest of the city of Karditsa with a population 32,700 and 68 km southwest of the capital and largest city of the Thessaly region, Larissa, with a population of 144,000.
According to data from the Greek Institute of Geodynamics, the depth of the epicentre is estimated at 10 km. The earthquake was felt in much of Thessaly, but according to the Mayor of the Municipality of Lake Plastiras, Panagiotis Nanos, no damage was reported.
