site.btaBulgaria’s Debt in 2024 was 24.1% of GDP, Preliminary Data Shows


The Government Debt of Bulgaria for 2024 amounted to BGN 48.846 billion or 24.1% of GDP, preliminary data on Government Deficit/Surplus and Debt for the General Government sector for 2024, published by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) Tuesday shows.
The country’s debt in 2023 amounted to BGN 42.383 billion, which was 23.1% of GDP.
In 2024, the General Government Institutional Sector reported a deficit of BGN 6.158 billion, or 3.0% of the Gross domestic product (GDP). The deficit in the Central Government sub-sector amounted to BGN 5.277 billion, or 2.6% of GDP. A year earlier it was BGN 3.454 billion, or 1.9% of GDP, and BGN 3.375 billion, or 1.8% of GDP, respectively.
The Local Government sub-sector reported a deficit of BGN 810 million and the sub-sector Social Security Funds reported a deficit of BGN 71 million. In 2023 the deficit in the Local Government sub-sector was BGN 201 million, and the sub-sector Social Security Funds registered a surplus of BGN 121 million.
