Economy and Industry Minister Petko Nikolov and Mongolian Ambassador to Bulgaria Lkhagvasuren Sayanaa discussed areas of trade and the economy with potential for the two countries' relations, such as mining, foods and the light industry, Nikolov's ministry reported on Tuesday.
The host said that despite being far apart geographically, Bulgaria and Mongolia maintain good trade and economic relations and have various opportunities to develop their cooperation further.
He vowed that Bulgaria will continue to support the deepening of Mongolia's ties with the European Union. For her part, Ambassador Sayanaa underscored Bulgaria's strategic importance for promoting Mongolia's trade with the countries of Eastern Europe.
The sides noted the role of the Joint Bulgarian-Mongolian Commission for Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation and identified matters and initiatives to be addressed by the commission. The next meeting of the commission is expected to take place early next year, when the two countries will celebrate 75 years of their diplomatic relations.
As a positive example of the development of bilateral trade and economic contacts, Nikolov pointed to a licensing agreement between LB Bulgaricum and Apu Dairy Mongolia to use Bulgarian technology for the production of yogurt in the Asian country. It was also noted that the two nations have developed good practices between them in the field of agriculture, food and standardization.
