Electricity production in Bulgaria decreased by 22.07% from January 1 to August 6, 2023, compared to the like period of 2022, show the latest data on the country's energy balance published on the website of the Electricity System Operator on Tuesday. A total of 24,616,758 MWh of electricity were produced this year, compared to 31,586,305 MWh in 2022.
From January 1 to August 6, 2023, electricity consumption in Bulgaria amounted to 22,202,537 MWh, down by 5.28% from the like period of 2022.
The electricity balance (export-import) went down by 70.36%.
The participation of base plants in the country's energy balance decreased by 26.53% to 19,515,496 MWh in 2023 from 26,562,336 MWh in January 1-August 6, 2023.
The participation of renewable energy sources in the transmission and in the distribution networks went up by 45.13% and 5.27%, respectively, year on year.
The electricity produced by hydroelectric power plants decreased by 16.17% this year compared to January 1-August 6, 2022.
