Household deposits in Bulgaria’s commercial banks holding more than BGN 1 million rose 32.9% year-on-year to 2,447 at the end of December 2025, Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data showed on Wednesday.
At the end of December 2024, there were 1,841 such term deposits and current accounts, 606 fewer.
The total amount held in these household deposits came to BGN 6.222 billion at the end of December 2025, up 35% year-on-year, a nominal increase of BGN 1.613 billion.
Quarter-on-quarter, deposits above BGN 1 million rose 18.7%, or 386, compared with the end of September 2025, while the total held in them grew by BGN 1.316 billion over the same period.
A similar rise was seen in household deposits (term deposits and current accounts) holding between BGN 500,000 and BGN 1 million. In 2025, they increased by 1,332, or 33.4%, to 5,318, and the total held in them rose by BGN 898.7 million to BGN 3.613 billion at the end of December 2025.
Overall, household deposits in Bulgaria increased by BGN 17.6 billion in 2025 to BGN 107.07 billion, up 19.8% year-on-year. The total number of household deposits in Bulgaria’s commercial banks rose 2% year-on-year to 9,186,733.
Around half of household deposits were for amounts of up to BGN 1,000: 4,451,235 in total, holding BGN 729.9 million. The number of these deposits fell 5.4% year-on-year, and the total held in them dropped 7.1% over the same period.
