Nine Bulgarian companies from the defence industry were presented at an event in the European Parliament in Brussels, organized on the initiative of MEP Andrey Novakov (EPP/GERB), GERB’s press office reported on Wednesday. The companies presented are Samel-90, Arsenal, MTG – Dolphin, Optix, Dunarit, EnduroSat, Dronamics, Wiser Technology and Kontrax.
According to Novakov, the presentation aimed to coordinate, position and advocate for Bulgaria’s interests in Brussels. The event was held behind closed doors and featured a discussion with experts from the European Defence Agency and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space.
The event also brought together representatives of the defence industries of Poland, Croatia, Czechia and Slovakia. Special guests were Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, and European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius.
In early September, Bulgaria’s Economy Minister Peter Dilov said that in 2024 the defence industry accounted for over 4% of the country’s gross domestic product. According to him, exports of military products rose from EUR 650 million in 2021 to EUR 2.8 billion in 2024.
