Observances of the Bulgarian Land Forces Day, November 19, began on Friday with the opening of a photo exhibition, titled “In the Service of the People and the Fatherland”, in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the Defence Ministry said. The exhibition is dedicated to the 147th anniversary of the establishment of the Land Forces and the 140th anniversary of the victory of the Bulgarian infantry in the Serbo-Bulgarian War at Slivnitsa.
The exhibition features amateur photographs taken by military personnel and civilian staff of the Land Forces. It demonstrates the changes in individual equipment, weaponry, and technology, as well as the daily efforts and dedication of the personnel.
“The images capture the spirit we carry in the forces. The faces you will see reflect the motivation of the Bulgarian Land Forces to serve the people and the fatherland,” said Major General Deyan Deshkov, Commander of the Land Forces, in his remarks.
The photographs show the daily activities of service members to ensure they are always ready at any moment when needed, whether at the border, during disasters, accidents, missions, or disposing of unexploded ordnance. “They perform the actions depicted in the photos every day, around the clock, regardless of weather conditions,” said Major General Deshkov.
“The Land Forces deserve our respect for their honourable service to the country. This initiative is a good way for all of us to see how they perform their duties,” said Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov at the opening of the photo exhibition.
“I welcome the initiative of the Commander of the Land Forces, for the second consecutive year on the eve of the holiday, to use amateur photos by our colleagues to give the general public the opportunity to get a close look at their service and demanding daily life,” said Admiral Eftimov.
