The first postage stamp for 2026 will be dedicated to Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone, the press service of the Ministry of Transport announced on Monday. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov has signed the thematic philatelic plan for next year.
The press release points out that stamp collectors in Bulgaria eagerly await the new issue, as the withdrawal of the lev as the national currency closes a whole collecting cycle with more than 140 years of history and opens a new one. This is the second time this has happened in Bulgarian history, after the introduction of the national currency at the end of the 19th century, when philatelic issues began to be sold in lev instead of in centimes and francs.
Other new stamps to be released in 2026 will be dedicated to 125th anniversary of the first tram and the 85th anniversary of the first trolleybus in Sofia, to queens from the history of Bulgaria, to birds of the Black Sea coast, and to Hollywood legends such as Marlene Dietrich, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, and Marilyn Monroe.
