Bulgarian pianist Donka Angatscheva has been awarded the Gold Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria, presented to her on behalf of Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, her team announced on Saturday.

So far, only six Bulgarians have received this distinction. “Donka Angatscheva is the first Bulgarian artist to be granted this exceptional recognition – a fact that highlights her significant role in the cultural life of both Austria and Bulgaria,” said Iliana Boycheva, Angatscheva’s manager for Bulgaria.

The programme of the award ceremony included performances by Teodora Miteva (cello), Zoryana Kushpler (mezzo-soprano), and Prof. Eduard Kutrowatz (piano). A ceremonial speech was delivered by violinist Lidia Baich, who emphasized Angatscheva’s remarkable talent, empathy, and humanity.
