Attending the opening of a bird photography exhibition at the Polish Cultural Institute in Sofia on Thursday evening, Vice President Iliana Iotova said: “ For the first time, I see so much love poured into capturing not only Bulgarian nature, but also one of its most wonderful and beautiful elements - the birds that inhabit our country.” The exhibition was opened by the Polish Ambassador to Bulgaria, Maciej Szymanski.
Reflecting on the invitation and the images in the exhibition, Iotova recalled Jacques Prevert’s poem "How to Paint the Portrait of a Bird."
“There may be no paintings here, but the photographs are so beautiful that, to quote Jacques Prevert, you could easily sign your name beneath each one,” Iotova told Ambassador Szymanski. “To take photographs like these, one must be free in spirit, very open-minded, in order to truly feel the beauty of nature,” she added.
Iotova said that she have always believed in the power and potential of cultural diplomacy. “Where traditional diplomacy sometimes falls short, cultural diplomacy can step in,” she added,
The exhibition features images of birds in flight. According to the organizers, Ambassador Szymanski, a nature lover and avid birdwatcher for nearly 40 years, began his journey with photography in 2001. Since then, he never ventures into nature without his camera. The exhibition is open to the public until October 17.
