The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria increased by 0.26% to 2.327 points over the past week, according to the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. Last week, the index stood at 2.321 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
Vitosha yellow cheese increased by 0.43% to 18.07 lv/kg, while brine cheese went down by 1.20%, to 12 lv/kg. Yogurt (with 3% or more fat content) rose by 2.17% and sold for 1.41 leva per 400 g, while milk went up 1.38% to 2.35 lv/l. Frozen chicken meat rose by 0.37% to 7.09 lv/kg, and eggs (size M) increased by 4.71% to 0.40 leva apiece. The price of butter (125 g pack) also rose by 0.76% to 3.18 leva.
Rice appreciated by 1.20%, to 3.37 lv/kg. Beans increased by 1.55% to 4.20 lv/kilogram, while lentils fell by 0.34% to 4.10 lv/kg.
Flour Type 500 went up by 0.68% to 1.49 lv/kg. Sunflower oil also rose by 3.64% to 3.30 lv/l. The price of sugar increased by 1.10% to 1.83 lv/kg.
Of fruits, apples saw the largest price increase this week, up by 6.90% to 2.51 lv/kg. The price of grapes rose by 4.10% to 3.30 lv/kg. Bananas were traded at 2.81 lv/kg, a slight increase of 0.07%. Lemons became cheaper by 0.80%, falling to 3.71 lv/kg, and oranges dropped by 5.87% to 2.77 lv/kg.
Among vegetables, zucchinis recorded the largest increase, up by 29.87% to 2.20 lv/kg. Green peppers rose by 10.87% to 2.08 lv/kg, and cucumbers increased by 6.24% to 3.27 lv/kg.
Prices of other vegetables declined. Tomatoes fell by 6.34% to 2.72 lv/kg, while red peppers decreased by 1.05% to 2.27 lv/kg. Potatoes became cheaper by 6.93% to 0.94 lv/kg, cabbage by 7.66% to 0.94 lv/kg, and carrots by 2.44% to 1.13 lv/kg. The price of onion also dropped by 3.20%, reaching 1.03 lv/kg.
