Devora Avramova won the silver medal in the women’s event at the Balkan Cross Country Championships on Sunday. Sumeyye Erol of Turkiye took gold and Derya Kunur, also from Turkiye, finished third.
In the 8,000 m race on rough terrain, Avramova, one of Bulgaria's top long-distance runners, stepped onto the podium with a time of 28:28.74 minutes. Gold medalist Erol clocked 28:20.08 minutes, while Kunur finished in 28:47.58.
In the women’s team standings, Bulgaria ranked third behind Turkiye and Ukraine, thanks to strong performances from all team members. Silviya Georgieva finished seventh, Bilserin Suleyman was 14th, and Marinela Tsekova took 17th place.
Among the men, the best result for Bulgaria was recorded by Ivan Andreev, who finished 12th. The only Bulgarian to secure a top-10 finish besides the women’s team was Anika Atanasova, who placed ninth in the under-20 women’s event.
