The Arabesque Ballet, Bulgaria’s contemporary dance company, launches its new season on Sunday at the Musical Theatre in Sofia with the premiere of BarrocoLife: The Perfect Imperfection, the troupe announced.

At the start of the season, Boryana Sechanova, who has led the company for 25 years, passed the baton to Angelina Gavrilova, choreographer, educator, and one of the company’s soloists who takes over as artistic director.

BarrocoLife: The Perfect Imperfection consists of two original works The Four Seasons, choreographed by Anna Doneva to the music of Vivaldi, and In the Shadow of Your Wings, choreographed by Mila Iskrenova, set to music by Bach, Handel, and Jean-Philippe Rameau.

The audience is invited to immerse itself in a baroque-inspired journey, where tradition meets contemporary dance, performed with virtuosity and passion by the Arabesque Ballet ensemble.

The Four Seasons is a musical masterpiece by Italian baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi, comprising four violin concertos, each depicting a season. The ballet mirrors this musical structure, with the changing seasons symbolizing the emotional and relational transformations of the human experience.

In the Shadow of Your Wings presents a contemporary interpretation of classical baroque compositions, crossing stylistic and thematic boundaries. According to Arabesque, four dancers "fold time and space" to reflect the passions of modern humanity through the lens of eternity.
